“Table for four?” Addy asked when she was standing in front of the kids from school. In response to her question, the people just went to a table and sat down. Of course, Addy had to follow them to get their order, but once it was given to Riley, she made herself scarce. During school, Addy was always teased for her clumsiness and people would try to embarrass her for their amusement. In the summer, she usually avoided making contact with people from school, but since she was working, she didn’t have that luxury anymore.
“Okay, two large pepperoni pizzas and four sodas.” Addison said as she brought the order to their table and started to set everything down. When she was about to leave, they told her the order was wrong and demanded their food to be on the house. Being new, Addy had no idea what to do in a situation where the customer was wrong because she was always told that the customer was always right. “Um, I’m sorry, but this is what you ordered.” Addy stuttered, her embarrassment and uncertainty showing. “I can get the manager if you would like to talk to her.” She told the group.

Once Riley had given her the order he just stared and watched what was going on. They were the last table till who knows when so it wasn’t like he would be holding up other people by stopping production. Oh hell no Riley thought to himself and walked out into the restaurant. Riley looked and noticed that Janet wasn’t around so technically he was the manager at the time which was just perfect for him. Riley wasn’t afraid of getting fired. He had always been a loyal employee and only ever caused drama when it was nessicary. And this was definitely a time when he stood up for others. Riley straightened himself to make himself and look presentable “ Is there a problem here?” Riley asked putting on a fake smile and looked at those that were harassing Addison. He personally hated people like this just like causing drama for no important reason. He never enjoyed tormenting them back since if they can dish it out they better be able to take it.
“ Now please tell me what you ordered and what this fine lady placed on your table please, oh and don’t worry about calling the manager because I am the manager” He said cracking a huge fake smile.

Addy heard Riley’s voice and whirled around. He wasn’t the manager, but after glancing around, she saw that Janet had disappeared. People like the group in front of her were why Addison acted the way she did. She always felt embarrassed if she got something wrong, or if someone said she was wrong so, she just stopped speaking to others all together.
Addison watched as the group at the table spoke with Riley and after some words were said, the situation was diffused and the people left. “Thanks Riley.” Addy said softly as she started to wipe down the table that had just been vacated. It was only her first day and she already couldn’t wait for summer to be over. Listening to customers speak to her like that and just causing trouble had not been on her ‘to do’ list for the summer. Heck, working wasn’t even on her list. All Addy wanted to do was curl up with a good book and not have to deal with kids from school, but of course, that wasn’t going to happen. Unfortunately there was no paying job for a teenager that didn’t involve contact with customers. Why couldn’t life be easier?

Riley nodded his head and gave her a hug from behind “ You would’ve done the same for me” He said to her and walked back to the kitchen. Because of those kids that was the reason hardly anybody wanted to work here because those people always liked causing trouble but no reason. Riley continued to keep up with his orders in a quick amount of time then a great idea hit him “ Hey Addison want to hang out after work tonight?” He asked her yelling across the restaurant to her. He really didn’t want to go home because he knew when he went home he wouldn’t have anything to do. He also had a feeling that Addy would want to just relax after her first day of work.
After-all it was a stressful one. Finally the end of the day had come. Riley cleaned up the back room and marked on the sheet his hours. Wow so far he had already worked sixty hours this week. Most people would hate working that much but not Riley just meant lots of money in his bank.
Riley noticed that there was some extra chicken wings left so he took them and started eating it. Nobody else would want their extras and he hadn’t eaten all day so might as well right?

Addy jumped slightly when she felt arms around her, but quickly relaxed when she realized it was Riley. "Sure, what do you want to do after we get out of here?" She asked once she was done cleaning the tables and had started to hang the chairs from the table tops. As she placed the last chair on top of the table nearest the kitchen, Addison went to lean on the counter. "When you think about it, there isn't much to do in this town." She said tiredly. It had been a long day and what happened with the guys from school was still nagging her. Addison knew that she shouldn't let it get to her, but she did. She just couldn't help it, it was part of who she was.
"Maybe we could go out for ice cream and just hang out at the beach." Addy suggested. There wasn't much to do for entertainment and what there was for entertainment was partying. Mostly everyone went to the clubs and partied hard, but Addison didn't take part in it. She had never had a drink in her life and refused to set foot in a club. Having drunk people surrounding her wasn't one of the things on her 'to do' list for the summer.
Pushing off the counter, Addy grabbed the broom from the corner and started to sweep up all the fallen crumbs and dirt that had made it onto the floor of the small pizza place.

Riley smiled as Addison started coming out with ideas of things they could do tonight. Riley always had it set in his mind that if he ever became straight Addison was the girl for him. Even though he knows he is gay. He tried being straight out of fear of everybody bullying him. And nothing worked so he finally gave up and admitted his sexuality.
Riley and Addison were close before he came out of the closet but he also figured that him coming out brought them even closer. “ Oh I got an idea what about ice cream, movie then go to the beach” He told her as he finished cleaning up the kitchen. That’s what he hated most about living here there was hardly anything to do and it drove him absolutely crazy. It was fine if you enjoyed doing nothing or had no motivation to do anything. Heck even his grandparents got bored here.
Which said something because they loved the calmness of this town. Once he had finished cleaning he told Addison he would meet her outside the store while she finished. He had no idea what movies were playing tonight but they hadn’t seen a movie in a while so it was something different.

"Okay, that sounds good." Addy said, following Riley outside once she was done cleaning up. Her first day of work wasn't too bad, but there were some moments that she didn't want to relive the next time she was scheduled to work. At least she had Riley there, Addy could only imagine how bad her day would have been if she didn't have her best friend there with her.
Addy didn't know what movie they'd see, but she knew she didn't want to see a horror movie. Addison absolutely hated them! Whenever she watched one she'd always feel paranoid afterwards and it wasn't a feeling that she enjoyed. "What time is it?" Addy asked. She should know the time since she just got out of work, but she hadn't been that observant at the time. "I think I'm going to get some black raspberry ice cream with sprinkles. That sounds good right about now, but so does chocolate and orange sherbert. Why do there have to be so many different flavors that taste so good!" Addy said while she thought about what she would order. "What do you think you're gonna get when we get to the ice cream place?" Addison asked, hoping that it would be something that she could steal a taste from.

Riley pulled out his phone “ Shortly after eight why?” He asked being curious about why she wanted to know the time. Riley laughed and shook his head as they walked out of the pizza parlor. He had no idea why they called it a parlor, parlor seemed more fitting for an ice cream store name but anyway. Addison was always indecisive when it came towards her ice cream and it had always made him laugh. Riley tapped his chin as he thought about it “ I haven’t decided yet either chocolate sundae or a milkshake” He told her shrugging his shoulders.
Riley wanted a boyfriend for Addison she was such a sweet girl that she deserved a sweet guy. He did wonder though if he would be jealous of their friendship. Although they didn’t have a reason to be they were friends and that was it. Riley also wondered if he got a boyfriend how Addison would react. He assumed she would be happy for him.
But it’s hard to say what would happen especially if Riley ended up spending lots of time with this boyfriend. But Riley was pretty sure that they would be friends for their entire life. Well at least he hoped so anyway.

Addy nodded, "I was just wondering. I didn't look at the time when I clocked out so I didn't know." She explained before starting to skip ahead. Yum, a chocolate sundae sounds good! Addy thought. "Are you going to share what you get? It wouldn't be nice if you didn't because I'm your best friend and best friends are supposed to share." She said seriously. As they approached the ice cream parlor, Addy went up to the window and ordered a small dish of black raspberry ice cream with chocolate sprinkles. She watched eagerly as they scooped it and smiled happily when the server placed it in front of her. Taking a spoonful and placing it in her mouth, Addy shut her eyes in bliss.
While eating her ice cream, Addy thought about how many of the girls at school had boyfriends and would act all couple-y. She would love to have a boyfriend too, but she had it stuck in her head that no guy would want to go out with her. She was too shy for her own good, the guys from school wanted girls who were out going and would do..things. It was times like this that Addy wished that Riley wasn't gay. He was the one guy that she could be herself with and didn't have to worry about impressing. If he ever got a boyfriend, she would probably be jealous at first, but after getting used to it she would just accept it.

Riley stared at her with an open mouth “ Uh excuse me?” He asked her putting his hands on his hips pretending he was mad at her. “ We don’t share everything” Riley told her with a laugh. Riley winked at her “ Of course I planned on sharing” He told her after joking with her for less than a minute. He never minded sharing with her because most likely he would take some of hers anyway. When Addison had gotten what she wanted Riley ordered his strawberry milkshake.
He leaned over and took a spoonful of her ice cream and put it in his mouth “ Damn that’s good stuff” He told her with a smile then handed her his milkshake for her to try it. “ So do you want to hear my goals for this summer?” He asked her then before she had time to answer he started telling her anyway. “ My goals for this summer is to get you and me a boyfriend so we can all go out on a double date” He told her getting happy and excited about the thought of it. He knew if that happened it would make Addison less shy and nervous.

Addy pouted at Riley's initial reaction, but then her face broke out in a smile when he showed her that he had been joking. After having happily munched away on a quarter of her ice cream, she saw Riley reach over and take some of her ice cream. "Hey!" She said in mock outrage before leaning over and stealing some of his strawberry milkshake. "That's good, but not as good as my ice cream!" Addison said with a small grin forming on her lips. Ice cream was definitely her weakness, she ate it so often that she was surprised she hadn't gained weight.
Addison laughed and rolled her eyes when Riley didn't even give her time to respond before launching into his goals for the summer. "Good luck with that." Addy knew that Riley meant well, but sometimes she wished that he'd just leave it alone. During the school year nothing happened between her and any guys, so why should it be any different in the summer time? "None of the guys from school are interested in me. Just because it's summer doesn't make me magically attractive to them." Addison said with a sigh as she started to play with her ice cream. Usually she was perfectly happy with life as a single person, but whenever the subject of boyfriends was brought up, it made her uncomfortable, it made her feel like she wasn't good enough.

Riley shook his head “ Your just showing favoritism” He said giving her a wink. And no matter how many times she said it was unlikely it just made him want to try harder. He realized that he and Addison had been talking about getting her a boyfriend a lot lately. Riley shrugged his shoulders “ Fine then we’ll find you a college guy” He said giving her a smile. Riley finished off his milkshake quickly before Addison could try and drink some more of it.
“ So other than that conflict near the end the day how was your first day?” Riley asked her placing his hands on his face leaning forward to listen to her. He often wondered what went on in Addison’s mind if he could get some tools and dig around in there he would really enjoy that. Maybe that’s what he could do with his life. Become a brain surgeon and poke and other peoples brains and figure out what makes them tick. To him that sounded like an awesome job.
How much school would he need for that anyway? If this is what he had planned for his life he needed to research it.

Addy shook her head at Riley. "It's not favoritism, it's completely true! Everyone knows that ice cream is better than milkshakes, well, apparently not everybody." Addy said with a slight smile on her face as she poked fun at Riley's lack of ice cream knowledge. It was fun hanging out with Riley. Addison felt that she could be herself with him and didn't mind acting in a way that a stranger would think was weird. Being weird and coming up with crazy ideas was part of who Addison was, but that was also the part that people never saw. To Addy, being herself in public would be embarrassing. She didn't want people to laugh at who she was, so she opted to be someone different when in the public eye.
Addy just stared at Riley wide eyed when he mentioned hooking her up with a college guy. "If I can't talk to or act normal around people my own age, how am I supposed to act normal around older guys?!" She asked, pouting as she watched him finish off his milkshake. "I wasn't done stealing from you!" She said as she finished her own ice cream.
"Meh, it was okay. Those guys just really got under my skin. I hate how they can get to me so easily! Why can't I be one of those people who are oozing with self confidence and just take chances without thinking?" It really aggravated Addy that she was so shy and lacking in self confidence. She saw how the people at school acted and she longed to be like them. Even Riley was more confident than her, if he really wanted to he could probably be popular, but instead he chose to hang out with her.

Riley shook his head “ Uh no honey not everybody knows that and besides I think the person that invented a milkshake is very happy with their selves” Riley said crossing his arms over his chest. Then a thought hit Riley why were they arguing about this there was ice cream in milkshakes. He decided he should tell her “ You do realize there’s ice cream in milkshakes right?” He asked her with a laugh. Riley shrugged his shoulders “ You act somewhat normal around me so you should be able to act normal around other people” He said giving her a smile. Riley rolled his eyes “ Fine” He said getting up and ordered another milkshake.
“ Happy?” He asked her placing the new one back on the table. Riley shrugged his shoulders “ Honestly it’s very hard to be that confident believe it or not I have trouble being confident sometimes” He told her patting her hand. Riley gave her a smile “ But don’t worry about that you know I would fight for you, I know it’s not the same as having your own self confidence but it’s still better than nothing” He told her taking a bite of her ice cream.

Addy stuck her tongue out at Riley, "What are teachers teaching kids these days? They're obviously leaving out all the important stuff like the history of ice cream and what makes it so much better than a milkshake!" When Riley brought up the point that a milkshake contained ice cream, Addison fell silent. He ruined her whole argument with one sentence! "Ice cream is still better." Addy said, a slight pout forming on her lips. "I've known you forever Riley, you're pretty much family, so of course I'm going to act normal. When I've known someone else for that long I'll probably act normal with them too." She said, watching as he went and ordered another milkshake.
"Extremely!" Addy said happily when Riley placed the new milkshake on the table. Taking a sip, Addison almost spit it right back out when Riley said even he had trouble with confidence. "But you make it look so easy! You don't seem like the type of person who would have trouble with self confidence, I'm that type of person and you definitely aren't me!" She said. The way she was speaking sounded more like she was trying to make sense of things in her head than having an actual conversation. "I know you'd fight for me Riley, but you aren't always going to be with me."
