Addy stuck her tongue out at James and hid her face in her arms, peeking out every so often to see if James was still laughing at her. “Rumors aren’t always true though.” Addison said softly, resting her cheek on her knees, and looking at James. People said that James was a player and a jerk, but she didn’t believe it, he was too nice to be either of those things.
Addy shrugged, “It’s a little bit of both.” Addison told James honestly. She was really shy, she always had been and was just waiting for the day she would grow out of it. Addy was also a little freaked out that James was shirtless. She knew that they were at the beach, so it wasn’t unusual, but the fact that she had just started talking to him and he was taking his shirt off, freaked her out a little bit. She wouldn’t say no if he asked her out, but it would probably be a little awkward for Addy since it would be her first date and she would be afraid of acting the wrong way. She only knew how to act with her parents and Riley. Addison never hung out with others which she had been fine with in the past, but it was time for that to change.

James nodded his head “ That’s very true” He said agreeing with her. James smiled at her “ I know this is really forward and soon but um do you want to go out on a date with me sometime?” James asked her kind of quietly. He wasn’t that good at asking out girls despite what everybody else thought. He wasn’t sure at all what her answer would be all he knew was that he wanted to ask her out. If she were to say no it would hurt but that’s life and that kind of stuff happens a lot.
James decided that he would be nice to her and put his shirt back on so she would be able to think clearly. He would settle for any kind of date she would want-whether it would be dinner or movie or a party anything was good for him. James didn’t even care if he was seen with Addison because he liked her and liked her shyness.
(Sorry about that)

Addy’s eyes got wide when James asked her out. She had never been asked out before and it just surprised her. She didn’t know what made this summer different from others or how she had changed since school ended, but whatever happened, she liked it. Taking some time to really think about James’ offer, Addison smiled and nodded her head, “Yes, I will go out with you.” She didn’t know what she was getting herself into, but she was excited to experience what every other girl her age had experienced. She just hoped that her expectations weren’t higher than they should be.
As James put his shirt back on, Addy was rejoicing and cursing at the same time. She loved the sight that he had graced her with and was sad to see it go, but at the same time she was happy because she could look at him without blushing every time. “What did you have in mind for a date?” Addison asked curiously. In the movies it was always dinner and a movie, but she didn’t know if that was accurate or not. For all she knew, the movies were just trying to raise the hopes and dreams of girls.

James smiled this was a good thing. He was going to enjoy his date with Addison he could tell already. of course he had no intentions of trying anything with her the most he would do was maybe give her a kiss on the cheek at the end. He had a feeling that she didn't have much experience with guys and that's what made him so attracted to her in the first place. " Well it could be the sterotypical date but I had something else in mind if that's alright" James told her and stood up extending his hand towards Addison.

Taking hold of James’ hand when he offered it, Addy used it to help pull herself up from the ground. “Why be stereotypical when you can be different.” Addy said in response to the date comment. Bending down, Addy gathered her things and put them all away before standing up again. “So what exactly do you have in mind?” She had never been on a date before and didn’t know exactly what to expect. If they were going on the stereotypical date, Addy would know what would happen because that was what was shown in all the movies and written about in all the books.
Wiggling her bare feet in the sand, Addy just stood there awkwardly. She didn’t know what to say or do, “Um, I’m ready to go whenever you are.” Addy said softly. She was really starting to feel self conscious. She didn’t really know anything about James and couldn’t exactly start a conversation with him if she didn’t know what his interests were. Even if she did know what his interests were, Addy wasn’t the greatest when it came to holding a conversation.

James shrugged his shoulders “ We could either A- walk around till we get hungry then we could obviously go eat something then we could end up back at my place so I could play a song for you or B- I could rent us a sail boat for the day… course we would have to get a picnic basket for the day so we could eat and drink. I like my second idea better but I’ll leave it up to you” He told her with a smile. James smiled “ Oh yeah I’m good” He told her honestly. He was hoping that she would choose the second option it was his better of the two choices. Besides he could play music for her at any time but it was very unlikely that he would have enough money to rent a boat for an entire day again. He hoped she wouldn’t be worried about him doing things to her. He wasn’t that kind of guy.

Listening to the options that James gave her, Addy carefully weighed them in her head. She had walked around town several times since she lived there and walking around one more time didn’t sound like very much fun. Plus, she had never been out in a sailboat! “I think I like option B better than option A.” Addison told James with a small smile playing upon her lips. “So, shall we go get stuff for the picnic?” Addison asked, raising one eyebrow slightly. She didn’t know if he had one packed already, but she didn’t know why he would since he hadn’t known that he would bump into her at the beach.
“Have you been out in a sailboat before?” Addy asked him. She didn’t know what it would be like. The only boat that she had ever been on was one of the little paddle boats and a ferry that goes around the lake. Not knowing what to expect made her slightly nervous, but she knew that going out on the boat would be good for her, and she knew how to swim if anything bad happened. She wasn’t a good swimmer, but she was good enough to stay above water.

James smiled and nodded his head “ I figured you would” He said since his first idea kind of sucked. James looked at her “ Yeah about that” He told her slowly walking away into the bushes and returned shortly with a picnic basket full of food “ My buddy told me about his hiding spot that he hides the picnic basket he uses when he goes out with his girl, so I’m just going to borrow it” He told her. He could’ve just made It seem like he was some big shot guy but it was better to tell her the truth. James nodded his head “ Yeah used to go on them a lot with my family” He told her but didn’t tell her that they don’t anymore due to the fact that there are two family members no longer around. James had no idea if she knew about his past.
He was pretty sure nobody talked about it. And if she did know about it he hoped that she wouldn’t treat him differently- but she didn’t seem like the kind of girl that would be that way. James was really excited to see what would happen between them.

Addison smiled when James brought a picnic basket out of the bushes. She accepted his explanation and didn’t question it. She didn’t know him well enough to know whether he was lying or not and she didn’t want to accuse him of lying when he was actually telling the truth. “I hope your friend won’t miss it too much today.” Addy said, referring to the picnic basket that James was borrowing. It would suck if his friend had a date and went looking for the basket, but couldn’t find it.
“That sounds like it would have been a fun family activity. My family never went out on boats or anything. The most we did was go to the movies or out to dinner together. Usually we just stayed home though.” Addison explained while thinking about the family outings she’d been on. She had never noticed it until that moment, but her family didn’t ever spend much time together. It never bothered her in the past, but now she was curious as to why that was. “So, the sailboat won’t tip over easily like a canoe, right?” Last summer, Addison went out in a canoe and she had been in it for less than ten minutes before she flipped over. Ever since then she had become afraid of tipping over and wouldn’t get back in the canoe.

James laughed and shook his head “ Not likely, as long as his schedule doesn’t change he won’t even notice that it’s gone” He told her honestly. His life was usually the same everyday. He would wake up, go to work for a few hours, spend time with his girlfriend till roughly ten at night, then go out to the beach till midnight and spend it with his other girlfriend. It hurt James knowing that his buddy was dating two girls at the same time but it wasn’t his life and didn’t want to cause drama so he just left it alone. The thing he hated most about his buddy dating two girls at the same time was because they were both for different reasons.
He was dating the one because they have fun together and they’re perfect and he’s dating the other because she will actually sleep with him. It makes James so angry but there’s not much he can do about it and that’s what makes him upset. James shrugged his shoulders “ It was alright, we don’t do anything anymore so it’s nice to have those memories to reflect on” He told her as he started to head towards the area where you rented sail boats. “ Nothing wrong with that seems rather relaxed” He said giving her a smile. James shook his head “ Oh no the boat has more weight to it so it shouldn’t tip over unless there’s a leak at the bottom of if it crashes, canoe’s aren’t as heavy” He told her with a cute little grin. It doesn’t seem like she gets out very often but that is fine by him.

Addy smiled when James said his buddy wouldn’t even notice. She would feel bad if he got in an argument because of her. Hearing that the boat wouldn’t tip, Addy smiled again. “That’s good to know. Do we get on the boat at the docks, or is there a launch in town someplace?” Addison figured that it would be at the docks, but there could be some launch that she didn’t know about. Just because she had lived in Pebble Cove all her life didn’t mean that she knew every area. She wasn’t much of an explorer and never had an interest in knowing places in town that she didn’t go to.
Starting to walk through the sand, Addy held her shoes in her hand. She liked the feel of the sand between her toes and didn’t want to risk getting sand inside her shoes if she were to put them on. I wonder how far away the boat is. The sun is hotter than I’d like and if it’s far then I’ll be all sweaty when we get there. I’m sure a sweat covered girl is very attractive to guys. Addison thought to herself while rolling her eyes slightly. She really didn’t want to go far in the heat.

James smiled and laughed a little bit " Yeah we go into the middle of town and there's a bunjee cord, we attatch ourselves to it and fling onto the boat" He told her with a grin. James shook his head immediatley afterwards " No just kidding we get onto the dock to get onto the boat" He told her just amused by her in so many ways. He had never met a girl like this before. James kept walking until about five minutes later they had arrived at the boat. He stood beside it and held his hand out for her so she could get up without falling.
Once she was safetly on the boat he started untying the ropes that kept the boat in place. He got himself on the boat and started steering it " Where to mylady?" He asked her with a grin.

Addison laughed at the joke James made. For a minute there she actually believed him. Before she could say another word, she realized that they had made it to the docks. Taking the hand that James offered to her, Addy carefully stepped into the boat and sat down. Watching as he started to untie the ropes from the dock post, Addison smiled. A small squeak escaped her lips when she felt the boat tilt to one side as James stepped in. Soon the docks were getting smaller and smaller as James steered the boat further away from shore.
“Anywhere is fine with me. I’m not a picky person.” Addison said when asked where she’d like to go. She didn’t really know the lake that well other than what was on shore, so there weren’t any particular spots that were special to her. Maybe in the future there would be some special spots, but at the moment, none existed. Carefully shifting her position in the boat, Addison looked over the side and dipped her hand in the water. It felt good since it was such a hot day. Smiling slightly when an idea popped into her head, Addison scooped up some water and threw it in James’ general direction.

James nodded his head " Alright then we're going in that direction" James told her pointing his finger in the foward direction. He enjoyed taking Addison around on the boat and he had full intentions on being a gentlemen with her that is until she splashed water at him. He grinned at her and stopped the boat and put the anchor into the water. He took off his shirt and did a cannon ball into the water right beside her hoping that she got wet by the spash. " Come on in the water is great" He told her honestly.

Addy nodded when James told her which direction he was taking her. She enjoyed being out on the water, it was peaceful and relaxing. Watching as James dropped the anchor, Addison smiled slightly. She saw him take off his shirt and began to protest as he got ready to jump into the water. “No, no no, no, no!” Addison said, spinning herself on the bench seat so that her back was to where James jumped in. As the water splashed up toward her, Addy felt herself tense up when it made contact with her skin. Letting out a squeak at the difference in temperature, Addy spun back around and stuck her tongue out at James. She knew that she was being childish, but she couldn’t help it, she was starting to feel comfortable with James.
“I felt the water when I got splashed by you, it’s cold!” Addy told James. It seemed like guys always said that it was warmer than a girl would say. “You can have your fun splashing around and I’ll have my fun up here where it’s dry.” She told him while slipping her shorts off and her tank top. Blushing slightly and feeling a little uncomfortable, Addy quickly grabbed her towel out of her bag and laid it out over the bench seat of the boat where she proceeded to lay down and soak up the sun. She had a feeling that she was going to be in the water soon, whether she wanted to or not. That’s what happened in all the movies and books she read, but this wasn’t a book or movie, so she could be wrong.
