So far, summer had been interesting to say the least. Addison had met a bunch of new people, had her first kiss and gotten a job. She never thought that she would be adding a second job to that list, but there she was sitting on the dock in her bikini manning the gas pumps. Her dad was a friend of the people who owned the boat rental place and they needed someone to pump the gas for both renters and non-renters. So, good ole dad said that Addy would do it. The job wasn't really that bad, it was actually pretty nice. It never was so busy that she felt overwhelmed and when she got hot she was allowed to just jump into the water. It was definitely better than working at the Pizza Shack, but she didn't mind working there either.
Laying out on a towel with her hair up in a messy bun and a pair of sunglasses perched on her nose, Addison smiled. The sun was beaming down on her and she could here the rumble of boat motors in the distance. Today she was wearing a red and white striped bikini. The color combination always made her feel like a lifeguard, but she knew that no one should ever trust her with their life. It was just a bad idea. Sighing to herself, Addy sat up when she heard the sound of a boat motor coming closer.
Standing up, Addison dusted her butt off just in case, and prepared herself to deal with a customer. Sliding her sunglasses up so that they sat on top of her head, Addy placed her hands on her hips and let a smile slide onto her lips. "Welcome to Wave Riders, what kind of gas would you like and how many gallons?"

kaden smiled as he felt the wind in his hair. kaden loved sailing and took any opportunity to be on the water. today he took his mother out for a much needed break from work, but was soon in need of more oil. he steered his way to the nearest dock, spying one of the employees lying there. he turned to motor off and slowly yanked his way onto the dock, tying the boat up. gathering up the things he spotted his mother clamoring out of the boat. "woah, woah, woah. calm down there, woman." he said, grabbing her hand. he helped her out of the boat and laughed as he fished her fallen sandal out of the water. his mother was very scatterbrained, but her beauty made up for it. kaden always wondered why no one had made any attempt with her yet, she was the most beautiful woman he knew. when he had returned her lost footwear she walked off to use the restroom. kaden hadn't realized that the girl was staring at him, apparently waiting for a response. he continued to ignore her, just for a laugh. he waltzed around the boat, taking as much time as possible to get everything prepared. he rearranged the pillows, picked up all the crumbs, and even set all the soda in the cooler to face the same direction. eventually he had his fun and decide to respond to the poor girl, "i'm sorry love, what did you ask?"

Addy watched as a young guy, not much older than she, stopped the boat at the dock and proceeded to tie the lines to the posts attached to the dock. Shortly after the boat was secured, a woman quickly got out of the boat, losing her shoe in the process. This caused a laugh to bubble out of her lips, but she quickly tried to cover it up with a cough. Blushing slightly at her rudeness, Addy looked away and let her gaze wander to the view of the water.
Feeling that her blush had faded, Addison noticed the guy arranging pillows and such. Typical tourist, taking his time Addy thought while letting a small sigh escape her lips. She was getting bored with having to wait, but she was quickly relieved of her boredom when the guy finally spoke, causing Addison to jump. If she had been closer to the edge of the dock she probably would have fallen in. “Uh, I asked what type of gas you use and how much you want.” Addison said quickly. Looking around the dock, Addison was hoping that someone else would pull up so that she could save herself some embarrassment seeing as she had already successfully embarrassed herself in her opinion.

a smile flooded kaden's face as he saw the girl jump at the sound of his voice. he jumped out of the boat as she restated her question. he decided to continue with his game a little longer and pretend to contemplate this 'difficult' decision. "well let's see," he started. "a man is four years older than his wife and five times as old as his son. When the son was born, the age of the wife was six-sevenths that of her husband's age. how many gallons of oil do i need?" kaden smirked, proud of his humor. he finally got the chance to observe the girl he was speaking to. she couldn't be much younger then himself, but she still had an innocence about her. her red and white striped bikini matched his shirt, making him chuckle a little. he spotted his mother a ways away looking though a little boutique to replace the sunnies she had dropped in the lake earlier. kaden kicked off his shoes and threw them into the boat as well. he looked at his feet and saw the tan lines that had formed from today. he looked under the sleeve of his shirt and saw the beginnings of a farmer's tan. he realized that the next time they went out he would have to be shirtless, but he didn't feel it would be appropriate with his mother. kaden was confident in his body, as he should be after working out for two hours every day. he looked up and realized he had forgotten about the girl, again. he never would admit to being as scatter-brained as his mother, but it was undeniable at times.

Addison felt her eyes get big and she started to freak out in her head. She didn’t know the answer to his question, it was a math question and math just wasn’t her thing. “Um..” Addison trailed off, feeling flustered and uncomfortable. Shifting her weight from one foot to another, she contemplated her answer. “I think you need enough gas to get wherever you need to go.” She said to the guy, happy with herself for coming up with an answer, but scared because it was probably the wrong answer. Addison hated being wrong because people usually laughed, but everyone’s different, so this guy might not laugh.
Moving her arms to cover herself slightly, Addison shifted awkwardly while waiting for the guy to respond. He seemed as though he got lost in thought a lot. Or he just liked to ignore people that were trying to do their job! Looking at the water once again, Addy sighed. At the moment she would like to just jump in and sink to the bottom. It would be a means of escape from the awkward situation she was in. Usually people would be passed the awkwardness that came with being a teenager, but at seventeen, Addison was still way too socially awkward for her own good.

skipping around, kaden awaited the girls answer. when she replied after a moment he had to admit her response was very clever. but kaden was never one to just let people win at his little games. "hesitation!" he shouted, gaining the attention of those around him. "ten points from gryffindor." he stated, wandering around pretending to be harry potter. kaden had no idea where this sudden burst of energy had come from, he was usually exhausted by the time he had gotten off the boat. he jumped back into the boat and grabbed two soda's, offering the girl one. she was still standing as he sat indian-style right next to her feet. he popped the top off of the can and took a gulp. the cool liquid felt good along his throat, realizing just how hot it actually was outside without the wind blowing in his face. he shook his drink to make it fizz, slurping the foam off the top. sometimes kaden was still a twelve year old boy, never really wanting to grow up. but kaden could be serious when he absolutely needed to be. looking up, he realized that the girl felt extremely awkward with kaden's behavior. to break the tension he decided to try and become friends with the girl. "so what's your name, love?" he asked, beaming a smile at her. his eyes squinted more then normal as her head turned revealing the sun behind her. he grabbed his sunnies and put them on, relieving the pain he had so suddenly endured. he rolled the bottoms of his pants up even further, suddenly wishing he had chosen more appropriate clothing for today.

Addison had kind of zoned out when waiting for a response from the young man in front of her and when he finally did respond, Addy ended up jumping again. She didn’t know why she was so jumpy, but she was. She would really like to tell this guy to get his gas and leave, but that would cost her a job and it was totally out of character for her. Watching as he got back into his boat, Addy thought he was going to leave at first, but instead he got back onto the dock and offered her a soda which Addison took, smiling slightly.
Sitting back down on her towel, Addison followed the guys lead and popped the top of her soda. Taking a small sip, Addison felt the cool liquid burn her throat as it slid down. She wasn’t used to drinking other liquids besides water and juices. She just wasn’t a person who really drank soda a lot. Looking up from the can in her hand when the guy asked her a question, Addison smiled slightly. “I’m Addison.” She said as she slid her sunglasses down to sit on the bridge of her nose. “What’s your name?” Addy asked curiously.

his face turned in time to see her head tilt back and drink the soda. he watched as it went down her throat. he smiled as he noticed her blonde hair blow around in the wind. kaden always found it attractive when girls didn't try to look pretty with makeup and hair styling, but just basked in their natural beauty. her skin glowed in the sunlight and it was apparent that she enjoyed the sea air as much as he did. he felt a little guilty for distracting her when she was supposed to be working, but he was supposedly the customer after all. "addison," she responded. her name was pretty, but it wasn't what he expected. for some reason he thought she was a kate, or a jane. he thought it would be something ordinary, but it wasn't. she reminded him of a friend he used to have when he lived in michigan. this girl, katie, always seemed quiet. the type that would be having a terrible day but wouldn't talk about it to anyone. "my name is kaden," he said, holding his hand out to her. kaden smiled at her, laughing at the way her glasses were propped on her nose. he quickly snatched them from her face and swapped them with his own. putting them on his face, they clearly didn't fit. however, kaden didn't really notice this. he shoved them on his face as they snapped in half. one half fell to the ground, "oh my god, i'm sorry." he picked up the pieces and put them together. to try and fix his mistake he reached for the scotch tape sitting next to him in the boat. he taped the two pieces together and handed it back to her. "there, good as new," he said, trying to ignore the fact that they were completely beyond repair.

Kaden, it seemed fitting for him because of the way he acted. It wasn’t a normal name and as far as she could tell, Kaden wasn’t the average guy. Grasping his hand in her own, Addy gave it a little shake before dropping it. She wasn’t really big on handshakes or really any physical contact with people she just met. Actually, she wasn’t a very big fan of physical contact in general.
Setting her soda can aside, Addison rested back on her arms and enjoyed the rays of sun that were beaming down on her. The heat felt wonderful on her skin, but all too soon her enjoyment was taken away from her when her sunglasses were pulled from her face. “Hey!” Addison cried out when she saw Kaden trying and succeeding to jam them on his face. Unfortunately in his haste to get them on, the glasses snapped in half. The only thing that went through her mind was, awesome, now I have to finish my shift with no shade from the sun. She didn’t really care that he broke them because they were inexpensive, but she was slightly frustrated that she would have to deal with the sun’s rays without protection. “Don’t worry about it Kaden, they were some cheap ones. I’ll just buy some more when I get out of work.” She was sure that she’d be able to find another pair at Details since the style was very popular as of late.
Taking the taped pair, Addy set them down on the dock beside her. “So, what brings you to Pebble Cove, vacation?” She asked. Usually people who were out on the water were just visiting, but on occasion there were people who were permanent residents of the town.

addison insisted that her broken glasses were no big deal and that she would buy a new pair, but kaden wouldn't have it. he took his own and gave them to her. he knew they would make her look like a bug due to the size of his face in comparison to hers, but at least she had something to protect her from the sun. he now was blinded from the rays, but at least she wasn't. he looked over his shoulder to see his mother staring at them. when he caught her gaze she promptly looked away and pretended to be busy. kaden laughed at this, she always was the nosy type. he paused for a moment to think of his response. he didn't know whether to just tell her the truth or to make a joke of it. he decided that he had joked quite enough and she was probably already pretty annoyed with him. "well, visiting. but, i used to live here. i go to school in new york now," he said. he didn't want to gloat that he had actually gotten out of this town and tried to make a name for himself. as much as he said he would never move back here, he knew deep down that he would. he couldn't stand to be that far away from the little family he did have. besides, kaden missed the water. "what about you," he asked. "where do you go to school?" kaden wanted desperately to make a friend here, and she seemed to fit the bill. he had been alone most of the summer because he was simply too busy to have normal friends. all the guys from high school wanted to do was go out drinking and pick up chicks. kaden, however, never had the desire to drink. besides, it would still be illegal for another year or so. he also wasn't the kind of guy that just wanted one night stands, mainly because he didn't even have his own place when he was here.

Looking at Kaden’s sunglasses, Addison laughed and placed them on her face. The lenses were too big for her face and it reminded her of when she was a little kid trying her father’s glasses on. Even though they were too big, at least they got the job done!
Addison listened to Kaden’s response and she couldn’t help but to feel jealous. He had escaped the small town, if only she could be so lucky. It wasn’t that Addison didn’t like her hometown, but sometimes it was just too small. Everyone knew everybody’s business and she just didn’t like that. If she were in the city there would be too many people to keep up with and she would be just a number. Not everyone would know what was going on in her life which sounded more appealing the more she thought about it. “I go to school at the high school up the street.” Addison said. Fortunately the coming year would be her last and then she might have the opportunity to leave home for something bigger and more exciting! “Going to school in New York must be so exciting compared to here!” Addison said, starting to drift into a day dream of what the city must be like. She had never been to a big city besides for Boston and even then it was just for the day. She loved it though, taking the subway and having everything that a person would need within walking distance. It was just so different from what she was used to. She was used to driving thirty to fifty minutes to go shopping whereas in a city places were just around the corner.
“Maybe I’ll go to college in the city when I graduate and take my chance to get out of here.” Addison said, thinking aloud. She knew that she would miss her family and maybe even become homesick, but it was something to consider.
